About My Tile Paintings

I design my artworks directly on tile, usually without sketching on paper, then paint in low-fire glazes and fire each tile at 2000°F. Glaze colors are transformed during firing from homogenous and muddy pastel tones to bright colors and varied textures. The designs shown here are repeated in very small limited editions, each of which is still hand painted and fired and is a unique work of art.

Tiles are available hardwood-framed, wood-backed for hanging, or without backing, for installation.

About My Writings

I've been writing poems, stories, and letters to myself since childhood. The writings displayed here, which are still (and I hope will always be!) in progress, are from the last few years. For each, I drew inspiration from one of my tile paintings, articulating what I had felt as I painted the tile. As I write, I often remember dreams and other sources of the imagery, which I hadn't been conscious of while painting. The writing has, in turn, inspired elaborations and variations on the paintings.
